August 23 GP registrar to beCame back to Melbourne, found an offer letter for GP training 2008, yeah!! I'm going to be a GP registrar next year, no more hospital life (apart from on-call from time to time!). Now, I have to start finding a rural area clinic to fit in, shouldn't be too hard though. At least 2 more years to go to become an Australian GP. August 18 The Summer Palace, Beijing"The best preserved imperial garden with richest landscapes and most densely constructed architectures in the world" would not be too much description for "The summer palace" as it was appraised in 1992. In 1998, UNESCO included the Summer Palace on its World Heritage List and honoured as "a potent symbol of one of the several world great civilizations" as it is an outstanding expression of the creative art of Chinese landscape garden design, incorporating the works of humankind and nature in a harmonious whole; and the gorgeous treasure throughout the human civilization. (From: The Summer Palace tourist map)
According to the description above, I was not able to resist the urge to walk around "The Summer Palace", the most beautiful attraction of Beijing (as my hubby told me).
We went to Summer Palace by boat from Beijing city, it took about 50 minutes and the cost is 60 yuan pp, quite expensive compared to taxi! However, we enjoyed different scenary along the river, many pretty Liu trees gave peaceful and relaxing feeling that we wouldn't be able to get from the roadtrip.
It was an imperial garden constructed in 1750 by Emperor Qianlong, was burnt by the invading Anglo-French allied forces in 1860. The government of the Qing Dynasty rebuild in 1886 but was ravaged again by the Allied Forces of the Eight Powers in 1900 and repaired in 1902. In 1914, it was developed as the private property of the royal family and formally opened as a public park since 1924. (From: The Summer Palace tourist map)
Arriving in The Summer Palace, only the first sight of special design of Xiuyi Bridge impressed me. Walking under hundreds of Liu trees, along with huge lakes (as huge as the bay or the sea), pace of life in China suddenly became slower. Many ancient Chinese contructions appeared to my sight one by one, all of them are impressively beautiful, huge, and culturally rich. I can't understand how Chinese ancient knowledge created this great civilization.
Even though it took long walk (some are hilly!) between attractive spots, each spot wiped away my tiredness in a minute. As we arrived there quite late, there was not much people around at the end so that we could get many good pics.
I have seen several world heritages, in Thailand and in Japan. Honestly, the Summer Palace is the most beautiful world heritage so far in my memory.
If you visit Beijing, don't miss this great civilization of Chinese ancestors. You will not be disappointed! August 16 Temple of HeavenHave you read or heard that the Great Wall of China, one of the world's wonders, created by the aliens? Sound ridiculous but I have.
Today, I have seen another amazing place in Beijing, it is the Temple of Heaven.
It is very huge, organized, quiet (after deleted all tourists from my sight!), and incredibly beautiful. All halls are very impressively pretty. There is "the echo wall", they said when two people stand respectively behind the
East side hall and the West side hall and there are two halls and a distance of over 60 meters between them, they can still hear each other's vocie as clearly as using a telephone. Unfortunately, they put the fence around the wall to protect the ancient wall being damaged by tourists, so I had no chance to try it. On the other hand, it is a good way to maintain original condition of the echo wall.
There are many ancient trees around, such as cypress, bai goa, or even 900-year-old junipers.
The whole Temple of Heaven is so huge that I was too tired to walk around. This place will be another one on my list to re-visit in the future.
I wonder how ancient Chinese created so many amazing landmarks in China. I can say China was the great nation from what ancestors left behind. It would not be that long for China to be back again..watch out America Ni Hao BeijingFinally, I am in Beijing...ni hao.
Started with shopping (so cheap and so pretty
Then, eating..yum. We went to the landmark of Beijing, roast duck..yes, Quanjude, the most famous Beijing roast duck in China. There was very long waiting outside and inside the restaurant as it was the most famous branch and another famous branch was closed. We had waited for about 45 minutes and then .. yes, yummy Beijing roast duck. However, it was not as delicious as the first time I tried...probably too late to have it!
We visited my in-laws' new house. They moved to a new housing garden, especially for people who used to work for the PR of China army so it is very huge, very luxury, in good location and extremely safe. Their house is very luxury and beautiful, I wish we would have that kind of place in the future. Yes, we will...my hubby told me
Ni hao Beijing to be continued ja....
August 15 Short Thailand tripThings that I have done in Thailand this time, August 2007:
1. Pigmented laser to all freckles by Ajarn Chartchai --> that's why I couldn't go out or see any friends during my stay in Chiangmai this time.
2. A bit of shopping --> didn't do much as reason above.
3. Enjoy eating --> not many either. However I did enjoy MK sukiyaki, Moo-Ka-ta, Larb, Moo Tod, Sai oa. Didn't have a chance to go to Pra-Thom, Kao-Man-Kai, Kai-nang-fa, etc...
4. Karaoke with Arthur and mom
5. Enjoy reading books and buying many books (non-medical na!)
Too short time to enjoy all things I want to do. Anyway, I'm sure I'm going back home again soon. Miss you, Thailand, the most beautiful and comfortable place in the world..for me ja August 07 Rosso & Blu - Between calm & passion - ระหว่างความเยือกเย็นและร้อนแรงได้มีโอกาสได้กลับเป็นหนอนหนังสือเฝ้าบ้านอีกครั้ง ชอบมาก มีความสุขสุดๆ กับการนั่งอ่านหนังสือ (ที่ไม่ใช่หนังสือทางการแพทย์) ทั้งใหม่และเก่า ค้นเจอหนังสือคู่หนึ่ง Rosso กับ Blu ที่เคยอ่านเมื่อหลายปีมาแล้ว เป็นหนังสือญี่ปุ่นแปลที่น่าสนใจมาก เพราะเกิดจากการเขียนสลับกันของนักเขียนสองคนในเรื่องราวเดียวกันแต่ต่างมุมมองและชีวิตระหว่างฝ่ายหญิงกับฝ่ายชาย
August 06 Shopping Spree in BangkokI arrived in Bangkok in the morning of 4th August 2007, Arthur and his friend (Tong) picked me up. Arthur and Tong had exercise training so I ended up with having my hair treatment done instead of only blow-dry. I couldn't resist marketing promotion of the hair salon, however it was so cheap and so good compared to Melbourne.
Time to catch up with Nong Pete (Aussie doc-to-be Thai Dr), we had lunch at The Gold MK sukiyaki (my favourite!) at Siam Paragon, then shopping spree commenced. I like to shop at Siam Square for some local designer clothes (not the 199 bath products as they are too small for me!!) and some brandname things from Siam Paragon. I shopped, shopped and shopped, ended up with many bags, new shirts and accessories. However, it was time to leave as my flight was 21.35 so I spent only few hours purely shopping. Not so bad for short time, I've got almost everything I wanted!
I was the last passenger to board the airplane! If I could, I would have spent longer time shopping and enjoying Bangkok a bit more.
Thanks Nong Pete, Tong and Arthur to spend time with me in Bangkok..mainly shopping! August 03 Good bye Sunshine EDI finished my last night shift at ED, Sunshine Hospital on Thursday morning. I realized that I really do enjoy working in ED, except shift working. I will miss ED job but I'm sure I'll be back working ED sometimes soon..(maybe locum I got a very good assessment from my supervised ED consultant. He gave me almost all excellent results in all categories Moreover, the registrars who had done nights with me told me that "thanks for being such a good resident, I am sometimes not this lucky." So flattered! Thanks for all compliments. Thanks guys, I'll be back to ED Video conferencing interviewI had video conferencing interview for the GP training selection as I had been doing ED nights and they were unable to find someone to cover me! The director of ED had to discuss with the clinical director of Bogong regional GP provider and the solution for this was "Video conferencing interview". It took them more than an hour to set up everything so my interview was 1 1/2 hour delay. I was sitting in the room alone and communicated with 2 GPs at Wangarratta via this video conferencing. I would say it was not very good situation for me as the sound could be unclear sometimes, there was no rapport between me and them and when I got nervous, there was nobody around, this made my nerve worse! The good thing is I didn't have to drive 3 hours to Wangarratta but I had to finish my last night shift! Man! I learn one thing from this event. Being too honest sometimes means "stupid". I should have just called in sick and went to Wangarratta for my interview. |
